Cycling & Mountain Biking
Miles of winding country roads in rural Seattle NorthCountry offer endless opportunities for peaceful walks or bike rides.
There are also four designated trail systems, the Interurban Trail, Centennial Trail, Lowell Riverfront Trail, and Langus Riverfront Park and Nature Trail. All offer safe walking and biking opportunities for the whole family.
The Interurban Trail is a multi-purpose 18.8-mile paved path that follows a portion of the route used by the Interurban Trolley line route that once carried passengers and freight between Everett and Seattle in the early 1900’s. This popular trail is perfect for joggers, rollerbladers, walkers and bikers. The trail is clearly market with directional and historical signs.
The Centennial Trail began in 1989 during Washington State’s centennial. This 29-mile paved trail, built on an abandoned railroad right-of-way, is designated a national recreational trail open to walkers, bicyclists, hikers and horseback riders and connects Snohomish to the Skagit County line. It’s also a lovely place for a picnic along the portion of the route that parallels the Pilchuck River.
The Lowell Trail is located in Everett and is a perfect mid-day excursion. The 10-foot wide, 1.75 mile pedestrian trail is accessible just off Lowell River Road near Rotary Park.
Birdwatchers and hikers love to frequent the Langus Riverfront Park. A bonus is the Lowell Riverfront Trail, a paved 3-mile nature trail leading to Spencer Island, an intertidal 413-acre refuge.
