Nels Bruseth Canoe Shelter Interpretive panels
Interpretive panels located across the street from the Darrington Ranger District at the Nels Bruseth Memorial Garden Canoe Shelter. Along with the panels depicting the story of Nels Bruseth and river trade in the early 1900's, are four different Sauk-Suiattle dugout canoes which Nels Bruseth worked hard to preserve. Nels was close to the people of the Stillaguamish and Sauk-Suiattle Tribes and saw the need for preserving their histories and heritages. In 1926 in wrote the book Indian Stories & Legends of the Stillaguamish, Sauk & Allied Tribes.
