Meet Malicious Women Candle Co.
Malicious Women Co started life as a candle company but these days they offer so much more than just their signature hand-poured candles: wax melts, room sprays, apparel, housewares, bath bombs, and even candle refill kits. They've also gathered a cult following thanks to their brand's trademark tone of snark, sass, and a take-no-bull attitude.
Editor's note: this article and accompanying photos contain mild adult language. We've left it in because it helps to tell a powerful story. Also, there's a trigger warning here for depression and suicide. Be advised and take care accordingly.
Malicious Women Co is a woman-owned, and women-run business that creates honest and ethically-made products. While MWC appears brash and in-your-face, the story behind the company is one of heartbreak, but also of resiliency, strength, and empowerment.
In 2016, MWC founder Lacie Marsh-Carroll lost her long-time best friend to depression and suicide. Pile tragedy on more tragedy with her close family members suffering their own traumas and in a matter of months Lacie hit rock bottom. As heartbroken and lost as Lacie was, she had to figure out how to keep moving forward.
At the suggestion of her therapist, Lacie found a hobby in researching and making the perfect candle to honor her friend’s beautiful life. With a focus bordering on obsession, she found the perfect non-toxic wax, the perfect jars, the perfect wicks, and she perfected the scent throw (how well the scent is distributed).
And that’s how Malicious Women Co came to life, and brought Lacie along with it.
Lacie’s no-nonsense, take-no-bull attitude comes out in her snarky candle labels and her “Bitches Against Bullshit” motto. This is a woman who will not back down from a challenge and who will stand up for those who are unable to stand up for themselves.
MWC’s flagship store is in downtown Snohomish and there are several stores around the area that carry MWC products. Follow their social media to find out about sales at their production warehouse and sales that benefit organizations fighting for what MWC stands for: women, empowerment, strength, and human rights.
